We spent some time at the Summer Palace, a place where Emperors resided. Constructed in the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234), during the succeeding reign of feudal emperors; it was extended continuously. By the time of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), it had become a luxurious royal garden providing royal families retreat in the Summer....... it was VERY cold here today. The lake is completely frozen over........, but that didn't stop so many people from visiting today.
The Great Wall, (below)- we actually climbed up to the 4th Watch Tower, (though there were 6 here), and then actually climbed up inside of that tower.... not that easy..... very steep, uneven steps, some not so steep, and totally worn down in places. You can see the pollution, but I hear it can be much worse..... we WERE able to see the mountains through the haze.
We started this journey many years ago, knowing that our daughter was waiting for us somewhere in China. That journey began in 2004, but after a setback healthwise, we had to pull out, thinking our hopes were dashed forever. Then in late 2005, with renewed purpose and strength we again began the process of our adoption. We were logged into China March 28th, 2006, and were matched with our Dear Daughter, October 13th, 2009. GOTCHA 12/14/09 Forever Ours 12/15/09
